How to Order Coroplast Signs

Printing

We offer two production methods for signs. Direct-to-coroplast signs are printed directly to the material on a flat-bed printer and offer the best price. For sizes larger than 36 x 36” and jobs requiring the highest resolution, we print to adhesive-backed roll vinyl which is then mounted to the coroplast. This is the more expensive option because more labour is required.

Artwork should be submitted at print size in PDF format with a minimum resolution of 150DPI and a .125” bleed allowance. If you do not know what these terms mean, check out the Artwork Preparation Guidelines on our web site.

Sizes

Signs are available in a variety of standard sizes but can be any measurement to a maximum of 36 x 36” for direct-to-coroplast printing.

Vinyl to coroplast signs can be any size up to a maximum of 48 x 96”.

One-Side or Two?

Signs can be printed in three ways:

  • Single sided – printed on one side only
  • Double-sided – with the same image on both sides
  • Double-sided – with the different images on each side

The most cost-effective solution for street signs is to print double-sided signs and place them perpendicular to the roadway so it can be seen from both sides.

For single-sided signs or double-sided (same image) submit a single print file. For double-sided (different) submit two files or a single 2-page file. If you are using directional arrows on your signs. Your file should be 2 pages with each arrow pointing in the opposite direction

Keep artwork in the intended proper-oriented reading orientation with the head/top of the artwork positioned at the top of the file. (DO NOT ROTATE 90 DEGREES).

Material

Coroplast comes in 4, 6, 8 and 10mil thickness (weight) and the price increases with the weight. Most small format signs for real estate, job sites and elections are printed on 4mil material. Heavier weights are recommended when sizes are larger than 24 x 36”. The material requirements also depend on how the signs are mounted. If mounted directly to solid backer, even 4mil is usually adequate. Only 4mil and 6mil can be used with wire H-stands, the flutes on 8 and 10mil are too wide.

Coroplast is a very durable waterproof and weatherproof material when mounted correctly.

Flutes

Flutes are the spines that run through coroplast. Spines can run vertically or horizontally based on the way the panel is printed or the vinyl is mounted. Normally, spines will run in the direction of the longest length unless specified. For signs being mounted on H-stands, the flutes must always be vertical because the wire tangs insert between the spines from the bottom.

H-Stands

These are the H-shaped metal stands designed to slide into the coroplast flutes from the bottom. They are light-weight steel and have some flexibility. They are pressed into soft ground with your foot and easily removed. Essentially rust-proof they can last for years and are very cheap so easy to replace. If you plan to use these stands your order must specify vertical flutes.

Grommets
Grommets are metal rings inserted in the sign for hanging. The metal reinforcements prevent “pull-through” that can happen with plain holes. If you select real estate grommets, the center of the grommets will be 4 inches from the left and right edges, and 1 inch from the top and/or bottom edge.  If you select corner grommets, the center of the grommets will be 1 inch from all edges. Grommets are 0.75″ in diameter.
